love(seats) - custom upholstery with Valentine's Day in mind

Sure it may be a little obvious for Valentine’s Day, but we wanted to feature LOVEseats on this most romantic day of the year.  Afterall, isn’t Valentine’s Day all about grand romantic, if cheesy, gestures? Ever wonder where the name loveseat originated?  According to the Encyclopedia Britannica this style of furniture originated in the late 17th century as an extra wide seat in order to accommodate the large dresses worn during this era.  As dresses became less full, the large chairs of this size started to be produced as love seats, or courting chairs, as they allowed a couple to sit close.  But not too close, frequently the love seat featured two separate sections so that the couple could sit face-to-face.  We imagine the separate pieces to be similar to the Caitlyn Left and Right Corner Chair by Broyhill, shown below in a French script fabric but available to be customized in plenty of choices.

Today, the term loveseat refers to any item that is a two seat, smaller version of a sofa or couch.  two arms meet.  This way you have room for a lamp and a place to put down your book (or Kindle!)

Looking to add seating but don’t want the matching loveseat?  Another option is the settee.  Remember, you don’t need everything to match exactly and choosing a different shape and fabric can help liven up the room.  This fun Enlighten Settee by Craftmaster is shown in the trendy ikat, but is available to customize in over 1,000 fabrics!  Look how it takes the classic camelback Raphael Sofa by Craftmaster in a timeless taupe-gray color and updates the feel of the room.

Or, in the same space of a sofa and loveseat, an increasingly popular solution is the sectional sofa.  Maximize the seating space in your room with this option.  The Broyhill Ethan Sectional is a best seller with a neutral fabric and a medium scale that fits in many homes.  The angled “cuddler” end invites lounging, and may be the modern answer to the loveseat.
